If you want to be an Excel consultant, but you do not know how to use Excel past the beginner level you need to determine where your current skills set is, and based on that you need to determine where to start. Once that has been achieved you need to get a few things in order before you can begin to learn Microsoft Excel at the intermediate level. To start you need to buy a copy of Microsoft Excel 2010 (Windows) or 2011 (Mac). Both Excel 2007 and 2010 will both work, but 2010 has some new features that are very powerful and that should be used. As such, stick with the newest version. 2011 will work on the Mac, 2008 for the Mac does not have VBA, and so you will need to work in Office 2011.

I use training excel to make a list of activities. I break the Excel spreadsheet into days of the week Monday through Sunday. In column you want to list all the actions you need to take. In anther column set a goal for amount you do each week. For example you can set a workout time goal of 60 minutes a day. When you complete this action then you would write the amount of time you worked out.

If you place small bets for fun on weekdays then at least try to take your weekend bets as a serious business with heavier wagers. Better still ‘though, cut out the “fun” bets altogether. Ultimately there’s far more fun in consistently winning than haphazardly losing.

In the early 1960s the development of the first computerised spreadsheet applications for business accounting took place, but a huge milestone was reached in the mid eighties when Microsoft introduced Excel, originally for the 512K Apple Mac. It came with many new features, including pull-down menus and the capability to point and click using the mouse. There have been many improvements in Excel since those early days, but basically it does the same job as those old paper spreadsheets, only a lot more efficiently. And here are some things that could not be performed on a paper version.

The goal setting process is meant to give us the inspiration to start taking action. We need to make a list of ALL the actions we can take to make the goal a reality.
